Editor (Spanish)

Location: Los Angeles, CA

We are looking for a bilingual comics Editor with both creative and logistical chops to source and develop compelling original content, aimed at our Gen-Z and Millennial audience in Latin America.

The Editor will be responsible for managing and editing a variety of series sourced from external pitches coming from creators in Latin America as well as series elevated to Originals from our Canvas platform. The ideal candidate will have experience working with comic creators, strong relationships with writers and artists and other entertainment talents who are developing content for this market, and experience in digital content production. 

You have a deep knowledge of and passion for WEBTOON and demonstrate an understanding of current trends on social media and apps that appeal to a youth market in Latin America.

This position reports to the LATAM Content Manager for Webtoon and will work closely with the Webtoon Marketing team and other groups across the Webtoon ecosystem.

This role is set to start as a remote position and will change according to the city’s guidelines for safety during COVID-19.

Responsibilities

  • Source, develop, and edit comics targeted towards a 14-24 demographic
  • Identify trends in pop culture in LATAM and develop relevant series that will appeal to a broader, non-comic reading market
  • Manage creator relationships, maintain series materials (treatments, art files, etc.), be able to anticipate potential road bumps, and smoothly troubleshoot any issues
  • Set deadlines, copy edit, and ensure the overall quality of assigned titles
  • Ensure that all paperwork is properly filled out and sent to operations
  • Ensure that any necessary rights and clearances are properly pursued and secured
  • Collaborate with other teams within Webtoon Entertainment including marketing, design, PR, and operations
  • Contribute to plan and attend domestic and international meetings and events. 

Requirements

  • Native fluency in Spanish
  • 2+ years of experience in producing and editing comics or similar content for a top-tier comic publisher or entertainment brand
  • BFA or equivalent experience
  • A strong voice for creative direction to communicate a clear vision and to bring ideas to life with creators
  • An avid reader of WEBTOON
  • Demonstrate a keen editorial eye for identifying talent and new series
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of popular culture and current trends that appeal to a youth audience
  • Must have expertise in Photoshop, Clip Studio, and Illustrator
  • Great negotiator (time, cost, and quality), and currently have strong connections with creators and illustrators in Mexico and Latin America
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
