Rights Associate

This position is the information nerve center of the Rights Department, which itself is the central authority on the status and disposition of rights for the company, its sister divisions, creators, and other third-party partners.
  • Manage, build, maintain, and improve systems and procedures to track complete and accurate data for acquired rights, their disposition, related business terms, key dates, and other critical information.
  • Research rights status, prepare ad hoc and automated reports and presentations, and disseminate related information throughout the company, to inter-divisional colleagues, and to third-party partners, including creators, ensuring clear, complete, accurate data, documentation, and communication.
  • Work closely with Legal, Business Affairs, Content Acquisition, Marketing, Studio, Publishing, Merchandising & Licensing, Global Alliances, and other inter-departmental, inter-divisional, domestic and international colleagues to obtain and disseminate complete, accurate, updated information related to the acquisition and disposition of rights on a worldwide basis.
  • Manage, assess, propose, implement, and optimize lifecycle processes, including communication, technology, operations, tools, strategies, and best practices (e.g., databases, knowledge, rights management tools, automation, etc.).
  • Work with and align with internal stakeholders to streamline workflows and standardize procedures where advisable.
  • Manage Rights Department access to key technologies and other tools, maintaining software accounts where necessary and ensuring proper working order.
  • Support other day-to-day Rights Department and Content Department activities, assisting with special projects, on an as-needed basis.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned.
  • 3 years in publishing, licensing, entertainment and/or related fields in positions that involve working with contracts
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Extensive familiarity with publishing, comics, and licensing agreements, able to review and accurately extract, summarize, and communicate key privileges, obligations, and
  • Familiarity with digital publishing and/or entertainment businesses a plus
  • Extraordinary organizational skills and strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to operate independently and multi-task effectively, managing high volume workflow and meeting tight deadlines while maintaining close attention to detail
  • Strong command of database apps such as Airtable required
  • Facility with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel a plus
